Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau

Kisses and Croissants is about an American girl named Mia who got into an elite summer program in Paris. She has six weeks to achieve her dreams to get an audition with one of the world’s best ballet companies. There's more to Paris than ballet though, including a cute boy named Louis who wants to be her tour guide.

So this was cuteish and I had a fun time listening to it but the romance was... awful. The story of Mia discovering the city, falling in love with it while also dancing and befriending her fellow schoolmates was so good?? It really hit that Lizzie Mcguire in Rome vibes, deadass. If the entire book had just been about her and her friends, I would have rated this SO highly.

I've read a couple books about ballet / ballet dancers before but they've all been dark and shown how toxic the sport is. I did like how this book portrayed it though- it was hard and grueling yes but it was also fun and Mia's wondrous passion was sweet. Loved reading a ballet book that wasn't all about eating disorders, bullying, and sexual assault. (The last ballet book I read be like.)

The romance oh my god bYE. I never felt the chemistry at all. Then they would have a big miscommunication fight that wasn't really miscommunication, it was just her learning that he's kinda shady??? It felt like the entire moral of the story is "don't fall in love, boys will ruin your entire future". Like same I was mad at her wasting time with him but dang to actually tell me that was wild.

Then I was KINDA getting on board with the romance because whatever Mia seemed happy okay but then some drama happened and that's a no from me.
