Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz

4.0

In Trigger Mortis, Anthony Horowitz does a better job than Fleming usually does of telling a tale where Bond uses his ingenuity, bravery, and brawn to overcome a villain's sadistic plot to kill a lot of people and take over the world. Of course, the villain does make mistakes which play in Bond's favor, but unlike Goldfinger, who simply keeps letting Bond live, Jason Sin earnestly tries his best to kill the trouble-making Bond. Sin, however, is not nearly as charismatic as most of Fleming's bad guys, but he has a horrifically realistic backstory and a plan that creates high peril.
