All The Feels by Olivia Dade

5.0

Having never read Spoiler Alert, I was unsure of what to expect when I decided to pick up All The Feels. I knew it was a book I could easily immerse myself in, I’ve been reading romances a lot more recently.
Alex and Laura’s chemistry is one that I haven’t seen in any of the romances I’ve read recently. Despite their complete opposite personalities they bounce off of each other in beautiful ways that work great. I can’t tell you the amount of times I squealed at their unknowing flirtations and got frustrated with their complete obliviance to each others feelings. Can we talk about the BANTER too?? They’re both so actively hilarious, with Lauren and her snarky comebacks that make Alex swoon and Alex with his fanfiction.
My favorite part wasn’t the romance, however, it was the incredible character building that both Alex and Lauren go through as they progress their relationship. With Alex’s ADHD causing over-empathetic problems that Lauren isn’t completely used to, the use of boundaries and the crossing or non-crossing of those boundaries is both realistic and a breath of fresh air to see in a romance novel. Lauren’s passive nature to a fault and Alex’s empathy and protectiveness clashed in a way that made me fall absolutely in LOVE with them. These characters feel like they interact with the world as well as each other, especially with Alex’s contributions to abused women and children and that connection to the writers of Gods of the Gates. Although it’s a subplot to their romance it still feels so eloquently tied into it, not just something to make sure the romance isn’t overwhelming. Lauren’s own connection to being abused by her cousin, and her defiant way of handling it is a beautiful way to make it feel more personal to her character.
Also spice. That’s it. That’s the comment.
Overall, this is my favorite romance novel of the entire year and I cannot wait for more people to give it a read!
