The Nightmare by Lars Kepler

4.0

I love that Joona is so sure of himself and his process that he can see two unrelated cases and say, nope, they're related and I'm going to investigate them. When he's at a crime scene he notices virtually everything, from blood spatter to a strange mark or positioning and can trace it all to some murder methodology. We get to know The Needle and Anja better, and the addition of Saga to his occasional team is perfect. Saga's strength and abilities as a cop set off her "elfin" beauty makes for an interesting character and I hope we'll spend more time with her.

This is more gory than the first book, and some of the set pieces are just weird (the island, for example). Once again we spend long passages inside other characters heads, for example Penny and her life and escape. At times it felt like padding, but almost always there was a kernel that lead to a revelation for Joona. And at the end there's a very cryptic message that just has to be part of future books.
