Slammed by Colleen Hoover

5.0

The back of the book is deceiving. It makes it sound like this book is sad. In reality, it's an absolutely incredible story. This is one of Colleen Hoover's first books. What I've learned is that her first few novels are from one person's view point, instead of multiple people. Although I really enjoy multiple view points, I still really enjoyed Slammed.

I didn’t know what slammed poetry was before reading this book, but I am so glad I know now. I love when Colleen Hoover uses lyrical devices like poems and music in her writing to add an extra element to the story that just makes it beautiful.

One of my absolute favorite characters on ALL time is Layken’s mom. The messages she delivers in the story are so powerful and things that NEED to be remembered by all of us. Not only her messages but the messages given to us in the poetry is important too.

I love Will and how big his heart is, and how much he cares for everyone. I love Lake and Will’s relationship building and the way they developed it. I love the awkwardness that arises in school and how perfect and punchy it is.

I truly enjoyed this book and would defiantly recommend it to anyone wanting an emotional, powerful, funny, and all around great book!
