While it is a great introduction to the series, and a nice addition if you've already watched it, it isn't a very strong book on its own. Mainly because you're just leading up to the events of the first episode. The information is nice, but it would have been cooler if it had been set slightly longer before the start of the TV show, because most of this was either implied or discussed during the show.
