The inclusion of some few racist words, the homophobia, the high body count, the pedophile ring all speak more about 1993 than Sandford. What Sandford left out in his novels was any sense that Lucas is aware of AIDS or any other STD in the 90s. Plus, the technology used to both commit and create crimes has changed so much...
The book hasn't aged well. Lucas isn't a good representative of 2023 heroics. I can see, however, why it was so popular in 1993.
