I always read every Gregor Demarkian mystery right away. They are slow, befuddling sagas that ring true about the complicated relationships and identities of people whose backgrounds and histories determine their lives. And they are beautifully written.

This one describes a community that is just like one where I lived for four years in Connecticut. A long-ago murder, a car crash, and a Fourth of July parade.
