Finding Me: A Memoir, by Viola Davis

dark emotional medium-paced

4.0

Viola is a powerful woman. I enjoyed the parts where she talks about the systematic racism that manifests from the school environment to work opportunities. I appreciated that she talks about the people who put in the work but are not struck by luck as the very few who do end up succeeding. that does not make them not want it enough, or be talented enough, or not putting in the work, the hours the effort, the sacrifice. They just belong in the 95% that did not make it to the very top.
The reason I knocked it a star down was because I was confused by the timeline at times and the ending was a bit confusing to me I had to listen twice.
I absolutely loved listening to her narrating her own story, hard truths, and trauma. I will be looking out for more of her works!
PS: there is a lot of talk about wetting the bed, rats, and physical and emotional abuse and poverty.
