Dead Poets Society by N.H. Kleinbaum

5.0

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life! To put to rout all that was not life. And not, when I came to die, discover that I had but lived.”

This was a powerful, profound and yet quick read. Based on the movie, this book follows Todd Anderson, Neil Perry, & their band of brothers as they, with the encouragement of their English teacher John Keating, find individuality with the mantra, Carpe Diem- seizing the day. Through poetry, they find the beauty of language and expression and begin the journey to accept the challenge from Keating to “make your lives extraordinary.”

This book does a great job tackling big ideas of the pressures of academia, overbearing fathers, and the tragedies that can come from defying expectations.
