This is the kind of scary book I like! Teenagers in rural Canada are going crazy, then disappearing, and it turns out that there's a giant beast-like creature that is stinging them, taking over their minds, and eventually feasting on them. But there's time gaps in these events that allow for no connection to be made.

Enter the narrator, a newly transplanted teenager who is dealing with his own demon, that of his mother's death. He is stung, along with another kid, and they embark on a non-stop gripping action tale to try to defeat the monster, because of course no adult believes them (except for one nutty guy who had a run in with the beast years earlier).

Just like in Acceleration, McNamee provides excellent descriptive detail. His books would make great illustrators of such for English classes. Plus the battle between good and evil laid out well, and I really liked the contrast between Danny's (the narrator) inner demon of grief, and the outer other worldly demon that he and his friends have to fight.

I had a hard time putting this book down, it was so exciting.
