I read this for part of my book club with my best friends. This has been one of my friends’ fave books for years and we recently went on a holiday trip to Lancashire and she created a witchy murder mystery game based on these books. It was so much fun that we all agreed our next book had to be Spooks.

And this book did not disappoint! It’s written for younger readers, some of the writing was quite juvenile and sometimes I felt like the action was resolved and skipped over too suddenly - but it didn’t detract from how creepy and easy to read this is!
I love all things horror and creepy, and this book is full of witches and boggarts and ghosts/ghasts - it’s creepy and would be disturbing for younger audiences; some of the descriptions I was surprised they didn’t edit down!
I am very invested in this world, I need to know more about the Spook and Tom’s Mam and Alice, and all of the other beings causing problems!
Luckily I also have book 2 to read now, so I’m off to do that!
