slow start but worth it. **** Trigger Warnings ****
I read Keri Lake’s “Nocticadia” and absolutely loved it so I was looking forward to this book. To be completely honest the start was really slow and dragged on. I was starting to get disappointed until about 35%. That’s when all the action starts and it’s so worth it. I love the way that Keri Lake writes. Can’t wait to read for other books too. Just beware that there are some very triggering aspects of the book.
TW: multiple Attempts of sexual assault and sexual violence of a MC, (g)rape history (not detailed but mentioned) of multiple characters, forced abortion, pedophilia (in the community, not detailed)
I did not know these trigger warnings going in and that’s on me for not doing my research. However, I have a personal history and I did not feel too triggered by this book. It is very dark, though, and can definitely be triggering to others. I think more detailed trigger warnings are on her website so I suggest checking those out before reading.
I really liked that Keri highlighted the sexual trauma of a male character in this book. Although women are much more likely to experience some type of sexually assault in their lifetimes than a man, men still experience it and are underrepresented.
