With the novel being framed as focusing on the seven husbands of Ms. Hugo, the book’s path felt entirely unexpected. It felt impossible to put down the novel as I anxiously awaited to learn the next motivation for a choice in Evelyn’s life, Monique’s reaction, and how what we knew as the reader would knit them together.
