God's War by Kameron Hurley

4.0

I always struggle with the first 10% of Kameron Hurley books, then as soon as I get my bearings I absolutely love them. I love her obsession with gross bug-based technology. The world building in this one was fantastic, and if her goal was to create a female version of a rough around the edges 80s antihero, she succeeded. (it was, she states that in Geek Feminist Revolution)

I didn't realize how much I'd come to care for Nyx and her team until I was sitting in my car, long after I'd reached my destination, just to hear (and process) what happened when one of them was taken. If that's not praise for a book, I don't know what is.
