The Black Book of Colors by Menena Cottin

This is a little different than a traditional color book; each page describes the colors like a blind person would know them by using words and raised pictures to create another idea of what a color is. The entire book, as the title would have you think, is black with white text; the illustrations are raised to go with the Braille translation on each page. This book not only demonstrates a new way of looking at color, but also creates a genuine appreciation for how someone else might “see” the world. I was impressed with how far this book reached beyond a traditional colors book to connect people of different communities. I feel like this would be a great book to start a conversation about what it means to see the world in different ways.
