The Tailor of Gloucester by Beatrix Potter

Heartwarming tale, I could see it becoming a Christmas tradition to read, on the Eve or the morning of. Exquisite illustrations as always. But alarming to realize that central message, aside from kindness and reciprocity, is the wealth gap. One poor, overworked tailor, in substandard living conditions, who is obviously knowledgeable and skilled in his trade, who barely has the funds for all the luxe materials his wealthy client wants made up into garments, who will eat the cost of he doesn't finish in time, even if he is ill, because of course, no sick leave, no health insurance, and will starve if he doesn't manage this commission. This is why we unionize!
