This mystery thriller by Colleen Hoover starts with author Lowen Ashleigh receiving a ghost writing offer she can’t refuse. Esteemed writer Verity Crawford has experienced a tragic accident, and her husband Jeremy hires Lowen to finish the remainder of her popular series. Although she’d prefer to not spend days rifling through Verity’s cluttered office, she can’t afford to say no after her mother’s death left her with mountains of debt and an eviction notice.
Lowen spends her next couple of weeks learning more about the Crawford family and their unfortunate accidents. How does one lose two children in less than a year? Why does it feel like Verity is staring into her soul even though she’s no longer able to care for herself? And what’s with the odd manuscript that’s hidden between all of her story notes…?
I have never read a book that has left me asking so many questions after finishing it! Most books that leave you wanting more have you hoping for a sequel, but I was ready to start from the beginning and see if there was anything I missed. I now understand why my friend was begging for me to read it: she needed an extra detective!
If you’re looking for likable characters and a clear ending, I recommend skipping this book. But if you can enjoy a story without requiring a protagonist that is a perfect person, grab this book as soon as you have a chance! Trust me, once you finish it, you won’t be able to stop thinking about it.
