Sometimes books come in your life at the right time when you need it the most, even when you did not realize it. Watching Edie hits more home for more than I would like to admit. The book tackles some pretty tough topics that can be a little hard to swallow. From the complex truth about one-sided friendships, to first loves and doing what is right and wrong. This book covers touches the light of it all and some. The book tells the story through two sides the past is Heather, the future is Edie. Each girl is complicated and complex in their own ways. From Heather feeling the guilt and taking the blame for her sister's death, and being bullied at school, to wanting to be loved so bad that is willing to take Edie's bullshit, it is a little hard and painful to read Heather's desperate need for love. Which I guess is what makes her so beautiful to me. Her undying Loyalty and willingness to protect Edie, despite all the shitty things she has done.

Then there Edie, from the beginning she comes off as an unreliable character, as the story processes on, I have this sinking feeling that I'm not going to like Edie, the past or the future, the past Edie comes off as a broken girl, she craves attention and dwells on, which is why I feel that she is attracted to Heather and Conner. As time goes on in the past you come to realize that Edie is not only selfish (even her small acts of kindness can't counteract her actions, she's pretty much a user) so desperate for love she is willing to throw her best friend under the bus for the reward of Conner's love. Edie does not take action or responsibility for herself at all. Which Frustrates me a lot, this is also very foretelling about the future Edie.

Through the novel, you're made to believe that Edie is the victim being stalked by a crazed Heather. All up until the end when you realize that it's not Edie who is the victim. It's Heather. When I first finished the book I found myself irritated how everyone acted towards Edie at the end of the story, especially since the incident happened when she was young but after a few hours of sleeping on it. I realize it is Edie who is fucked up. She spends the novel playing the victim and refusing to accept very much responsibility. and quite would have continued not take responsibility if Heather hadn't confronted her and outed to her to everyone. Even though she holds a little guilt, it is not enough to apologize to Heather and admit she was wrong. A classic move of course.

What bothered me the most about Edie was how avoids Heather the entire novel for something that is pretty much her (Edie) doing and refuses to take blame for the incident that ruins Heather's life. All the Novel was an excellent read and keep turning me pages well into the night. It would be interesting for this to be turned into a movie.
