Delayed Penalty by Teagan Hunter

4.0

This was a solid hockey romance read. It had everything you come to expect from a hockey romance including hockey player banter, the girl wearing the guy's jersey, etc. Everything about this story was quite... cookie-cutter. Which isn't bad, I just like it when there are things to make a story more unique. I've read other books with every trope, microtrope, and plot point this one has. The issue was that other books did them better. All of that said, if you are looking for a single uncle and nanny hockey romance, this one will absolutely match that desire.

The characters are all endearing. Their various relationships were sweet to see. It all felt very natural and realistic. Especially the relationships between the guys on the hockey team. I particularly loved the text threads from the team group chat. It really helped break up the monotony of the book.  It quite literally repeated itself a good bit. Recapping conversations that just happened, reiterating the same point a character just made, etc.

Overall this is a solid hockey romance, I just wish it were a bit more unique.

I received this book as an arc from Valentine PR. My review is honest and voluntary.
