Lykkens Søn by Herbjørg Wassmo

4.0

I loved the first book in this trilogy very much (Dina's Book/Dinas Bog). I was completely taken by Dina, even though she is at times hard, heartbreaking, unreasonable and sometimes straight up crazy. This book was great, because Herbjørg Wassmo is a phenomenal writer, but somehow I didn't take to Benjamin, the way I did Dina... I was so gut-wrenchingly annoyed by him and his selfish naïveté, his lack of common sense and of self-restraint beyond what you would expect of a 10-year old, that it made me like the book less... which may be unfair on my part...

If you are just too curious about what happens after Dina's Book/Dinas Bog, or you simply love Herbjørg Wassmo's writing, then (by all means!) read this book and the third (Karnas Arv)...
If you liked (or even loved) Dina's Book/Dinas Bog, but feel that it was a fulfilled story in it's own right, then you really don't have to read the other two... They focus much more on the next generations, and Dina is merely a peripheral character.
