In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

2.0

Leonora (Lee/Leo/Nora) wakes up in the hospital bruised and beaten and cannot remember the sequence of events that led to her ending up in the hospital. Sounds like the beginning of a suspenseful and thrilling read right? Well you would be wrong. This is one of the most ridiculous stories I've ever read. The characters were boring, and the main character Lee (whatever her name is) is one of the most unlikable characters I have ever read. She is hung up on a guy she dated in high school for the long time of six months, and yet here she is a decade later still pining for him and unable to move on in her life without him being a main focus point in her head. She gets invited to a Hen party (bachelorette party) by her ex-best friend whom she hasn't spoken to in ten years (who also happens to be marrying her ex-boyfriend she cant get over), which she decides to attend. Well, needless to say things go down hill from there.

I understand that this is supposed to be a beach read, light fluffy, chick lit I guess if you will, but the story line and writing were so basic and predictable, that unfortunately I cannot recommend it to anyone! If crime novels or thrillers are your favorite genre of book (like me), look elsewhere for a story that will keep you gripped and entertained. There is nothing original or fresh in this book, - its not even a good re-hash.
