A list, from someone who has read this book [REDACTED] times:
  • This is Bridget Jones. Unsettlingly so. If you love that movie half as much as I do, meaning with the kind of blind adoration that leads people to die for their country, then you will have a good time with this.
  • I still do find Oliver a very endearing and amusing character.
  • This is more of a me thing, but I’ve really discovered that romance and audiobooks do not mix. Hearing some guy talk about how hot and heavy he’s getting, or worse, how his stomach is all afflutter, I find genuinely nauseating, especially since I’m usually out getting the shopping or doing something equally banal.
  • Other than that, the narration is excellent and brings the whole thing to life. I have never actually read this book and highly doubt I ever will, this is the definitive edition.
  • This book is the origin of my “two whales” joke, which no one in my life has ever laughed at but which brings me endless joy.
