I absolutely adored this book! I will start with the disclaimer that I am also a woman in STEM and therefore highly resonated with the character and the plot. The book made me reflect on how far but at the same time not far enough we've come as a society when it comes to women in STEM. My heart broke into a million pieces for Elizabeth many times throughout the book as she faces hardship and discrimination as a woman chemist and is forced by circumstances to sacrifice her career in chemistry and become a TV host. The book, in my opinion, pays homage to the real-life Elizabeths who had to grow a thick skin and fight misogyny in the scientific field so that nowadays women can be regarded as legit scientists and have access to the resources they need to pursue their dreams. On top of that, I was really fond of her love interest and their story, of how much I related to the way she fell in love as a scientist, with another scientist and how Calvin is the perfect example of a man who is not threatened by his partner's intelligence and how collaboration in a couple is and should be possible and it enriches their relationship. Another theme that was beautifully explored is that of motherhood and family, where family is not always blood (or human for that matter - shoutout to Six Thirty). Lastly, the author managed to create and maintain the vintage academic, science-y atmosphere and keep it throughout the book which was also a big plus for me. This book will be on my mind for a while and will most likely be a re-read!
