Hunt the Wood by Anna Fury, Amy Pennza

dark

2.75

This is definitely a fairytale retelling that is very loosely based on the original work. That being said, I enjoyed this darker MM Red Riding Hood retelling. The plot and the world-building was engaging, but the book does not stand very strongly without its smut. I also struggled a bit with the way Wotan, lord of the hunt, kept withholding key information from Ryder, that the latter would have needed in order to give informed consent to what was happening to him (not necessarily sexually, but romantically). But in all fairness, I picked this up because I wanted to read some dark smut, and that's exactly what I got. I probably won't continue with the series anytime soon, but if I'm ever in the mood for a similar story, I think I would enjoy the rest of the series as well.
