it's by no means a "bad" book, but you can trace the author's inspirations so clearly that it reads like a worse retelling of the secret history & the picture of dorian gray combined with any tiktok slideshow ever to exist about the hardships of girlhood and being an artist
also, nothing about this book gives you a thrill -- the end/climax/plot twist/anything that could make this a thriller is straightforward to predict if this isn't the first book you've ever read. i think it would be infinitely more interesting and successful if it explored the relationship between the characters after the fallout rather than going in the direction it did.
