Queen of Deception by May Freighter

4.0

I really liked this fantasy book, but I did not love it unfortunately.
But, special mention to the gorgeous cover!

I loved the premise that Emilia, a twenty-or-thirty-something from our world somehow gets reincarnated in her favourite fantasy book.
But, this was not covered in the book!!! Boohoohoo! I would have LURVED to see this adult woman being thrown into the body of a very minor young character in a world she knows well but knows as fiction, and how she survived and set herself up to thrive in this strange new place.

The switching of POV between Emilia, the foreign prince, and his knight was OK but made the story a bit "staccato" at times. It took a while to get into the story properly, but then it kept my attention.
I really liked all the side characters and I feel they are solid and interesting. The story could have really sung with perhaps a bit more world-building. It is almost like the stage is very nicely set, but you can still see that it is paint and the people moving the stage pieces around.

Still, solid, interesting, easy to read, fresh fantasy book and I am excited to read book 2 in this series.
Also, evil cliffhanger so I am thankful I already have Queen of Ashes on my e-reader.
Would recommend.

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
