Iris and Roman blew me away. Really. I was on the couch when I started the book and I was on the floor in tears when it ended.

I felt every emotion these characters felt. Ross not only gave her own writing and her characters a voice, but gave her character’s a unique writing style as well. I loved to see it come alive in their letters.

I found the whole story incredibly romantic.
SpoilerI’m such a sucker for the whole “girl thinks she’s in love with two people, but it turns out they’re the same person” trope.
It’s such a fun trope to experience as a reader. I enjoyed looking for all the little ways Roman slowly revealed himself to Iris. I must say, I love this man.

I loved the supporting cast of this story as well. It is diverse and fun, the characters have interesting backstories and unique traits. I felt fully immersed in their stories and well-beings as well.

This was a read that captured my heart so thoroughly that I read it all in one day. And oh, to be swept up in this story so intensely, was a dream. I had such a fantastic time reading this book. This might be the book that gets me to admit I love historical fiction.

I really enjoyed the twists in the last few chapters, even if they also ripped my heart out. Now I’m expected to quietly sit and wait and be patient for book 2?? Impossible!

I am eagerly awaiting Ruthless Vows in April 2024.

NOTE: I will also add that the scenes on the frontlines may be triggering to some folks.
