A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum: Murder in Ancient Rome, by Emma Southon

5.0

This was SO good. Exactly what I want every interesting-sounding non fiction book to be, but so often isn't. Emma Southon clearly knows her stuff, and truly couldn't be better at teaching that stuff. She's funny, honest, clear, informative, skips over the boring bits but maintains the important bits in an interesting way. Her enthusiasm and interest is contagious, and this is a perfect example of what good stuff academia can offer the world - when not produced in a stuffy, gate-keeper-y way. I'm excited to read anything else she writes!!
