Abduction by Varian Krylov
2.0
Abduction, by Varian Krylov, is basically a long and harrowing horror story about two characters forced to have sex with each other and then some, by a psychopath in a cabin in the woods. It was billed as BDSM/Erotica on the All About Romance site but frankly, when one character kidnaps, drugs, and threatens the other with guns and knives, I think we are pretty firmly over the BDSM line into outright rape and assault.
The characters also continuously engage in conversations and internal monologues about whether or not they are being raped/assaulted.
Frankly, this kind of narrative device is utter bullsh*t. You-the-author and we-the-reader are aware that the line between consensual sex and forced sex has been crossed. Having the characters espouse justifications based on whether or not someone achieved orgasm during a forced sexual encounter does not suddenly create consensuality in the act itself.
The power of Abduction, for good or bad, is that I read the whole thing. It is fairly well written. However, it is not a romance by any means.
