It took me a minute to get through this, not because it wasn't good: it was funny, sad, heartwarming, bone-chilling. Pretty much everything good writing should be. But there was no narrative, and so I wasn't dying to finish it. I could pick it up at my leisure and meander about its pages. I guess those are the perks when reading poetry.

I was surprised by how funny her words were; her irreverence, her charm. She reminded me of Emily Dickinson in a lot of ways; her penchant to lean towards death; to romanticize the end. The way her snark cut through with her pretty words, flipping it on its head. I was charmed, I admit it.

My year of poetry is looking pretty good; Dorothy Parker is a win. 4/5
