I often have a really hard time reviewing books that are 5 stars to me (actual 5 stars, no 4,5 or 4,75 rounded up), because there are no words to express what exactly I am feeling. This was just perfect to me.

Such Sharp Teeth is a story about Rory, a woman returning to her small hometown, where something traumatic happened to her, in order to help her pregnant twin sister. There she meets an old friend who has had feelings for her since they were young and on the way home from that meeting, she crashes her car into a werewolf. She get bitten and now has to navigate her new reality as her transformation begins.

I absolutely love the characters. Rory was such a well-written, complex main character. Same with her sister, Scarlett. The parallels between turning into a werewolf and pregnancy were done so cleverly. I also enjoyed the romantic subplot. I really appreciate how human every character was and how realistic relationships between them were.

There is something so poetic in expressing womanhood through body horror and changing into a canine creature, however weird that may sound. And it's amazing how many different things you can show through that metaphor. The way it blends pain with freedom. It embraces the rage within a woman and gives an outlet for it.
