The Houseguest: And Other Stories by Amparo Dávila

Did not finish book.
So underwhelming. Not sure if it was the fault of the author or the translators but the combination of the blunt endings with the purposeful vagueness did not work for me, it felt like it needed to wrap every story up as quickly as possible, and relies on the readers imagination to enrich the underdeveloped ideas. The more stories I read the more I lost interest, skipping around to the ones considered best only to be met with the same sort of disappointment. Each story felt immensely repetitive, with some great unknown evil looming, that you never actually find out what it is. I really don’t find it to be the great immersive psychological horror that it’s advertised as.
