Classic adventure story with a magical steampunk twist. While reading this, I got distinct vibes of His Dark Materials blended with the aesthetic of Final Fantasy X. I read this book as part of the Red Cedar Book Club for my school, and this is definitely a title aimed at older students rather than the younger ones. This is not to say that the content is inappropriate, though there is some violence. The language, however, will be quite dense for even the strongest grade 4/5 readers.
