Women Don't Owe You Pretty by Florence Given

3.0

I feel like this book has a lot of good messaging, but at the same time some of her opinions can be so deeply entrenched in rebelling against the patriarchal view of the world that it effectively removes women’s agency from the consideration entirely. To say that a thing is bad because it’s part of the patriarchy and therefore we must shun it, is giving the patriarchy altogether too much credit. They don’t own marriage as a concept just because of her perception of marriage being historically used as a way to possess women? Not to say that’s not valid, she has some history of trauma and that’s influenced her perception of the world too. Idk.
