Dread Brass Shadows by Glen Cook

3.0

This series is a mix between the hard boiled PI and urban fantasy. In the world that Garrett lives in there are dwarves, elves, wizards and vampires. Add to this the need for a hard nosed and stubborn investigator and you have the basis for some interesting tales. The only complaint that I have with the series is that the writing is not the best. That being said, I still enjoy the stories.

In Dread Brass Shadows, Garrett is asked to find a book that allows the holder to assume the identity of anyone that is on it's pages. If the book falls into the wrong hands it could really be devastating. So of course all the bad characters are trying to get the book and Garrett is thrown into the mix. It is a twist and turn tale that leads to a final showdown with all the bad characters in TunFair. Garrett is really pushed to the edge but how well will his luck hold out?

Recommend this series to any fans of urban fantasy and the traditional PI novel.
