I'm Your Guy by Sarina Bowen

emotional funny hopeful medium-paced

4.0

10% in: If I read AGAIN that this designer really needs work and is broke... Got. It. Let's. Get. To. The. F*king. Plot. Already.

Overall:
There's only one part where there's more hockey than I prefer, that's a plus. And as usual, Bowen delivers the emotional hits I crave, and did not go into excruciating sex scene detail, for which I am always thankful. The real world conflicts felt real and were dealt with by actual adults, too. That's my favorite. The other characters are great, and T's mom is AWESOME. There's a lot to enjoy in this novel.

However, that initial note was so even though I knew I'd enjoy this, I'd also remember that some of her writing habits can be very irritating. The first three chapters really needed a better final edit pass. And the whole book could use the elimination of all the character action nonsense, like getting out of bed, or noticing something, or picking something up and on and on. It's all unnecessary clutter when we are aware that hands pick things up and how feeling things works and so on. This is basic writing craft stuff, and the author should've learned it by now.

But I still am glad I read it, and that's the important part.
