Alice in Chains: The Untold Story by David de Sola
4.0
I'm sort of unsure how to rate this - I'd been longing for an in-depth book solely about Alice in Chains (and, by extension, Layne Staley). This book helped ease that longing, and there are many interesting things that I hadn't read before, but a lot of the information comes from things I HAVE already read (internet articles and books like GRUNGE IS DEAD). I do feel that this book was meticulously researched, and de Sola is very open about who declined to comment and who was unsure about what, etc...but I didn't realize when I ordered the book that it was not worked on with the cooperation of the band (or Layne Staley's family), so there is definitely a missing element there.
I'm giving the book 4 stars because I love Alice in Chains so much and because, to be honest, I ate it up like candy. But do start reading it with the understanding that there are some problematic aspects.
