We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal

Did not finish book. Stopped at 49%.
I really wanted to love this doulogy and the premise sounded super interesting, but the execution just really underwhelmed me. It was always compared to the Six of crows books, both of which I love, but this just lacked the depth of characters and the connections of the found family. The main character Zafira ticks all the boxes for stereotypical main character that's not like other girls, including tragic backstory and having to hide her identity. And her love interest isn't any less cliche with an enemies to lovers plot that feels very forced.
Even the conflicts seemed to not really have high stakes or plausible reasons, so I just didn't care about them.
I'm not 100% discouraging everyone to read this though, is some easy breezy fantasy is what you're looking for it's great, the setting is refreshing, since it's not vaguely medieval Europe for once, but I just wasn't invested enough to finish the 500 or so pages of this.
