Breaking Away is the third enthralling instalment in the Rocking Racer’s Series by Megan Lowe. It is a contemporary/sports romance that enthralled me from the moment I opened the book. I have loved following this series and getting to know this wonderful cast of characters. They are really well developed, fascinating and endearing.
This book can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend that you read the other books before starting this one, as a lot of the characters, information and back story to Ryan Racing is revealed in those books and will definitely increase the enjoyment factor of this story for you.
At 21 years old, Maverick Ryan is the sexy, tattooed, second youngest of the Ryan brothers. He is a champion FMX rider at the top of his career. He grew up around bikes, watching his brothers race and it was just assumed that he would follow them into the sport, which he did and became really good at it, very quickly. But, he doesn’t relish the limelight like his brothers do, they are more the outgoing performers, he’s more of the strong, silent type. Being the centre of attention makes him feel uncomfortable.
Mav is really proud of his family and their accomplishments, he’s just miserable with the racing lifestyle. He feels guilty for not being happy, because racing has done so much for him and the rest of the Ryan’s. But, he feels like there is something missing from his life and it’s something he won’t find racing. So, he packs up and leaves home, with only a note left behind to let his family know he has gone. He’s worried that he’s just a big disappointment to them. That he’s let them down, and he’s not sure if they will understand why he needed to leave.
Travelling interstate, he finds somewhere to stay and prepares for a fresh start. Having always loved computers, his plan is to attend University, enrolling in an IT course. What he hadn’t planned for was meeting his friend’s beautiful sister, and how that would make him feel.
Aubrey James still feels the sting from a past relationship gone wrong. She refuses to put herself in that position again. Bad boys are a definite no-go…. they’re nothing but trouble. So, when she meets her brother’s tattooed friend, oozing that bad boy vibe, she wants nothing to do with him. But, when a situation occurs and Mav steps up to help, she begins to re-evaluate her opinion of him. She may have jumped to a conclusion and misjudged him in the process. Can Mav dismantle her defences? Will she take a chance on happiness with him? Did Mav make the right decision when he left home, and racing, behind him? Will he find what’s been missing from his life? What about the rest of the Ryan’s, will they understand why Mav had to leave, or is his relationship with them now damaged beyond repair?
This book is another superb addition to this wonderful series.
Mav is so sexy- I loved getting to know him better. I ended up loving Aubrey, even though I wasn’t quite sure to begin with. I love the Ryan’s, they are all wonderful, supportive and caring. All the Ryan brothers are so divine and hunky- I loved exploring their world once again.
The story is fast paced and easy to read. I practically inhaled it, completing it in a day. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Thank you, Ms. Lowe.
