A fantasy novel inspired by Asian history and dragon lore featuring queer main characters. The book starts off slow but the last 150 pages really find it's stride. I was uncertain if I wanted to keep going and now can't wait for book #2 of the duology.
But what I liked most was how a young girl can set out for her love with a simple life in mind, and find herself by doing new, unexpected things and saying yes to surprise scenarios. Our character is not a static thing, and we can choose to become more ourselves when each new opportunity presents itself. Maren is a story just begun that all young girls can find themselves in.
