Off the Record by Chelle Sloan

emotional medium-paced

4.0

Off the Record is the first book I've read, or in this case listened to, by Chelle Sloan, but it definitely won't be my last. Sadie and Hunter were so easy to root for, even when I wanted to shake the daylights out of one or both of them. They both tended to self-sabotage - Sadie more so than Hunter, but both had their moments. That said, this couple's biggest problem was a lack of communication when even a heads-up could've prevented drama.
It was pretty easy to figure out where the angst would come from in this one, and while it would've been a nice surprise if I was wrong, that didn't keep me from enjoying the story and swooning a bit over Hunter. I love that he knows what he wants, and he isn't afraid to go after it.
I had the pleasure of listening to this one, and I do mean pleasure. Lia Holland and Michael Gallagher give excellent performances. They capture the emotion of the story so well, and I don't just mean the romantic emotion. Hunter has some family things to work through, and not only was that well written, but it was equally well narrated.
The whole book is well written, in my opinion. I enjoyed Chelle Sloan's writing style, and I don't think she could've chosen narrators any better. As I mentioned, this is my first book by this author, but after listening to this one, my TBR has grown by a few new additions.
