I enjoyed the story, but the "twist" ruined it. The "it was actually all schizophrenia trope" is tired. It can be done in a tasteful way, that still leaves an intriguing story, as seen in The Circus by Jonas Karlsson, but this is not that.
There is a chance that Mona Awad intended it to be more open ended, but it that was the case then, in my opinion, she overwrite the details.
I enjoyed the reading experience. I would suggest it if you are looking for the kind of book that makes you feel like you got a fever and nothing is real, you might really enjoy it! Just don't accept it as schizophrenic representation, please!
