Challenging the Story: A Surprisingly Simple Approach to Supporting Children with Challenging Behaviours by David Jereb

challenging hopeful informative inspiring reflective fast-paced

I really loved this book and will certainly be recommending it far and wide. It reads like a happy bedtime story, and this unique, accessible structure makes it an ideal text for sharing and discussing with others. As well as using the text in their own professional environments, I can see teachers and therapists happily sharing this with parents and caregivers needing guidance. Or for anyone requiring access to such concise, empathetic, research-based information in their approach to behavioural strategies. Rather than being bombarded with lengthy, esoteric or conflicting resources, Challenging the Story uses short, fun chapters to offer powerful insights in a subtle yet succinct way. The various experiences of the characters are all extremely relatable and allow the reader to become  invested in the outcomes of the children, even those who might otherwise be dismissed as the “bully” or “class clown”. Each chapter is punctuated by a reflection point to summarise the ways we can adapt these lessons to apply similar strategies with the kids in our own lives.
