The Last Days of Judas Iscariot: A Play by Stephen Adly Guirgis

4.0

This book had me thinking hard and feeling shocked at various times. The themes and questions in this book aren’t particularly new, but the language and perspectives used to present them were to me. But I was intrigued by the play’s description, and I wanted to hear more about arguments for and against all the mixed opinions and judgements people can/do have about Judas and they people he encountered in his final days. And this play delivered that. There were moments reading this could be tedious, but perhaps that is purposeful—after all, most of the play is taking place in a courtroom, and most court proceedings (to my knowledge) are typically tedious. But that being said, there is a lot to wrestle with. And that is important, both in religious and spiritual faith and with theatre as an art form.
