Howl, Kaddish and Other Poems by Allen Ginsberg

5.0

"A way out of the mirror was found by the image that realised its existence was only a stranger, completely like myself."

I found this collection pretty difficult at first - I don't think 'Howl' is the most accessible introductory poem, at least in print form! But ultimately I think this is required reading for any of my fellow poetry gays. It's a beautiful though tragic study of queer life in the 50's, especially when considered with the resulting trial.

'Kaddish' absolutely broke my heart and is by far my favourite of the collection.
