I really enjoyed this story, although it has some decidedly heavy and dark parts. It was enlightening to learn a little about the mass Chinese deportation/murder in the PNW and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, a piece of history I knew nothing about. I enjoyed the dual timeliness format and while I cared more about Mei Lein's story, I enjoyed the interweaving with Inara's modern story and the slow discovery it created. Ultimately the ending is a bit predictable but that didn't diminish it for me. A very good, fast read.
