Behind You by Jacqueline Woodson

5.0

This is a companion book to If You Come Softly which I read some time last year. If You Come Softly tells the story of Ellie, a young Jewish girl and Miah, a young black man who fall in love. It is a beautiful but tragic story that I'd highly recommend. If you haven't read it, I'd skip this review because there will be spoilers about the first book.

At the end of the first book, Miah is shot and killed by the police in a case of mistaken identity. Behind You is the story of what comes next. How his family and friends and loved ones move on. How to live when you've lost someone you love. And it also has glimpses of Miah's "life" on the other side, watching and waiting to let go.

Jacqueline's writing is just so beautiful and raw and real. She has written many books and I'll definitely be adding them to my list.
