SpoilerI’m team Brick. I wish him the best, but I don’t think he’s ever gonna get it. For one thing, Maggie’s (and Mae and Gooper) are taking advantage of his aloofness. Secondly, he needs help, but none of the people who “love” him are going to help him. Finally, Maggie is a manipulative, annoying bitch. The most surprising part of this story was Big Daddy’s tolerance towards queerness. It proves he really does love Brick, but Brick can’t accept himself.
This is really, REALLY one of the best stories I’ve ever read that accurately portrays what it’s like to grow up in a huge, southern family. This is definitely a book I’m going to love and revisit forever.
