I got an ARC of this book.

I got this based on the title and cover alone. I did not read the description until after, you know the way I normally do things when I see a title like this one.

The book has five short stories. Each one focuses on a different pairing. There are trans men, women with other women, men with other men, and there is even an inter-species relationship (or two). I am all for this amount of diversity, though the book was still lacking something for me.

The trans man scene was fun, but eh. I am happy that a trans man was included and I would have killed to see this when I was starting my transition. Now, it just felt a bit weak. Most of the conversation is about his packer. I wouldn’t have minded if he had been the top, but he wasn’t. There is nothing wrong with a trans man bottoming (I can go full TMI if needed, but my father has access to my reviews so lets leave it at I have NO problems with trans men bottoming *cough*), but I needed something more exciting in this story for it to really capture me.

The story that really stood out for me was the last one. There was a hitman who had “gone soft”. He helped a kid survive in a situation that he shouldn’t have been in, but it messed with his tough guy image. He called his husband and his husband said he would help. The husband is this chubby black man who is perfection. He is clearly the dom to the hitman’s sub. Instead of using “sir” they use “dear”. Also the dom was a bottom which HELL YES. I was super into this in so many ways. It was diverse, it was the most engaging story of the bunch, and I could have read about them forever.

Each of the stories had something that was wonderful, but they all fell just slightly short of something. I don’t know what it was. Maybe it was the lack of condoms, though there was a conversation about testing and statuses in one of the stories. Maybe it was they seemed so emotional and soft, compared to what I am used to (though I 100% preferred these to any of the others I have seen). I don’t know. There was something missing, but I am not sure what.
